A STRONG WIND WARNING REMAINS IN FORCE FOR LAND AREAS AND WATERS OF SOUTHERN COOKS. Situation: A high pressure system together with a low pressure system to the far southwest of Cook Islands directs strong easterly winds towards Southern Cooks. Meanwhile, a trough of low pressure with associated cloud and showers lies slow moving over the eastern parts of the group. A trough of low pressure remains slow moving over Northern Cooks. Meanwhile, a moist easterly wind flow prevails over the group. Forecast to midnight tonight for the Southern Cooks: Over waters: Easterly winds 20 to 25 knots. Moderate southerly swells. Rough seas. Over land: Southeast wind 20 to 25 knots especially over the southern parts. Moderate to fresh easterly winds elsewhere. Occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms over most places. Further outlook: Some showers over northern parts. Fine apart from brief showers elsewhere. For Rarotonga: Fresh to strong east to southeast winds, gusty at times.
